I really enjoyed the narrative project and the process I did when putting it together. For the final open project I would like to continue that. My idea is to show a city in 3 different extremes, all in one image. Urban environments and how they interact with the world around them really interest me. The very much WIP image below has a hot desert on the left side, and a cold snowy field on the right. In the middle I would like to have an area of a temperate climate. . To push it to a new level, I would like to manipulate the image once its printed. I see my self as a painter and drawer and would like to incorporate that into this piece. With this in mind, I don't plan on bringing the image to full completion digitally, but rather bring it to completion with the surface manipulation once it is printed. This is a new way of working for me, and I am excited to see what a secondary surface can bring to my digital work.

I think working on it further after it's printed is a good call. When I first read your concept I thought of those images where a city is completely abandoned and taken over by nature so maybe you could do something with that too
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad to see something besides self portraits, which is sad because I'm also doing self portraits. Ha! But this seems interesting, I'm not sure how well these different environments will mesh together though. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteSound cool. Will you experiment on some other prints before going over the final print? Might need a wad of cash in case it goes awry. Maybe to keep things more different from the last piece you can employ different compositional techniques like different perspectives, colors, or systems of dividing. It might be easy to fall into a formula for the images.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see people incorporating analog elements into their digital work; I think it will really help with visual interest and putting your voice into it. I would consider printing smaller scale, or a few tiles at scale to practice on, to try not to spend too much on printing.
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of creating a new world. And when you talk about it in our seminar class I get the sense that you know a lot about it! I know that this is something you want to pursue in the future so I think this is a great step forward. In this image I would try and transform the two merging sides together more smoothly.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great you are carrying over the process from your last project, and I am interested in seeing it transform in execution. For some reason when you mentioned extremes in an urban environment, I thought of Kudzu, the plant that engulfs everything. It would be interesting to see something like that taking over the urban environment.
ReplyDeleteI like that you are continuing to push this concept. Maybe you could even start off with your own drawings, design your own layout and landscape and then use digital media to expand upon it.
ReplyDeleteI think its interesting that you're continuing your idea from the last project and this has a lot of potential. Are you going to be using any of your own photographs or just ones you find?
ReplyDeleteI like this idea, it reminds me of matte painting. I think the smoother you can make the transition between the zones the better.
ReplyDeleteGreat concept, i think it would be good to look a variety of other city scapes, as well, if you have a chance to see how that shape of their skylines effect the final piece. Good continuation of idea.
ReplyDeleteThis seems too similar to your last project so far. Probably because you are splitting up the photo the same exact way. But the idea of you working back into could solve that problem.
